Do you or your child know how to give CPR?
Being asked by my 8 year old about emergency situations and CPR
💔
this morning (as her brother was resuscitated 2021 at the age of 3)
So I've just showed her a video again from good old YouTube & then said there are songs to encourage the rate at which chest compressions should be given.... here are a few:
1️⃣
The Beegees - Staying Alive
2️⃣
Star Wars - The Imprerial March
3️⃣
TechnoTronic - Pump up the Jam
4️⃣
Queen - Another one bites the dust
5️⃣
Lynyrd Skynyrd - Sweet home Allabamma
6️⃣
Madonna - Vogue
7️⃣
Otis Reading - Sitting on the dock of the bay
8️⃣
Rick Astley - Never gonna give you up
The Imperial March seems most fitting, but any tune that will keep that heart going until help arrives!

I struggled to do cpr for 60 seconds and im a strong man, i wouldnt hold much hope of my 9 year old being able to do an effective chest compression, thats without the emotional stress of being in a situation where he needs to

@ruu my incredibly strong and fit sister performed CPR on a gentleman at a gas station once. 15min in total. She said it was the most exhausting and strenuous thing she has ever done.
I don't think a child could keep anyone alive sadly.

@ruu even teaching them how to call for help. How to seek another grown up near by / next door for example, can make a huge difference. "The chain of survival."

@foxyroxy agreed, my boys are very aware of how to react in a crisis, calling for help being the first step, well after trying to remain calm

If there intrested in it find local St John's ambulance they will have kids section badgers they can go to and learn about it in child safe way

I’ve been teaching my son since he was 3 years old. At the least once a month we practice. So it stays fresh in his memory.
Hopefully he won’t ever have to but if he does least he will know what to do. Fingers crossed.

Son doesn't know how to give CPR but knows the tunes from the advert.
He knows how to put in recovery position though and call my mum/999/both.
He's 10.

You can also ask a smart speaker in your home to “start emergency CPR” and it will count with you
However the most important thing is to teach them to dial 999 first, always get help on the way and if possible get the phone on speaker as the call handler will then talk them through the best course of action
