Tips for First-Time Cat Owners: Keeping Kittens Away from Christmas Trees

Play pen works for some but in general it’s there natural behaviour so you won’t be able to. Some just aren’t interested though.

You don't, my cat is almost 3 and he's a de-baubler! You can try a water spray bottle and just spray the cat when it tries it x

@sirgav1n Please don’t use citrus sprays, cats lack an enzyme in their liver that breaks down citrus and eventually it will build up enough to poison them, which is why they despise the smell and try to avoid it, but they can’t escape from sprays as it gets into the air they breathe.
We just bought a little fibre optic Christmas tree we could put on a table and they didn’t mess with it. It’s only for the first year or two then they calm down a bit!

This is my cats 3rd Xmas and she still gets in the tree. No where near as much as she did as a kitten. But she’s got better
I tried everything! Iv given up now and just take her out the tree when she does go in it now x

For the first couple of years I sprayed my tree with anti scratch spray. Never had an issue with the cats playing in the tree. I always have a 7ft tree covered in ornaments.

We spray our tree with Lavender spray. Our cats are 11 and 1. The youngest is more curious but hasn't pulled it down yet. When we had our russian blue she wasn't bothered by the tree, neither is my eldest cat at the moment. 🙂 Cats are pretty resilient and if they are told enough times 'no' then they tend to figure out they aren't allowed to do it. 🙂
