Tips for First-Time Cat Owners: Keeping Kittens Away from Christmas Trees

@peterkovac first year when they were 8 months they tried to climb tree but soon realised it wasn't strong enough, so then just use to hit the decorations with their paws as they walked passed now they just ignore it, though they will chase a decoration if it rolls along the floor

Give them something like this and they will have a field day scratching! Water spray works really well to train them off scratching furniture and carpet

@peterkovac I’ll let you know 😆 …only had my 12 year old rescue since Feb… no idea what he ll do but he is really tall/massive cat so it will be a crash if he does! None of my other cats have bothered to climb. One used to pat the odd bauble. I put lametta on the tree - I don’t think they like that floaty shiny stuff (hub hates it too ha ha).

I use the Scenticles citrus sticks and that keeps the cats out for the most part 🙂 We've also tied the tree down 😆
I tried everything one year, from cutting up actual oranges and placing them round the tree (looked like I was summoning something) to squirting the little shite with water whenever she tried to get in the tree.

I give up trying to stop the tree attacking. Citrus, foil. Orange peel and spray bottle literally don't faze my sassy lady. 😩

If you find something works do let me know, we haven’t put our tree up yet and I just know our 9 month old kitten is going to be a nightmare (aswell as our puppy) we had cats previously who left the tree alone after pulling it over just once and never touched it again but we have decided to keep this one as an indoor cat unlike our others so their behaviour is also very different in how they play around the home 🙈 so it’s going to be a challenge. Our other dogs have never bothered with the tree but I know puppy is going to be awful because he’s so different and is chewing all our things even will pull books out of the book case if we turn our back to chew them 😩🙈 (hence the tree isn’t up yet lol) normally we do it around the 1st 🤣 I said we are waiting a week this year so I have one more week of peace before tackling it haha

@sdburtis my sister had to fasten the tree to the wall they came home everyday to the tree in bits. Even a half hour trip out they'd do it. Just got to love em 😍

@sdburtis Buy some lemons 🍋 and limes. Cut a few slices and put them at the bottomof the tree and up in the branches. Only thing that seem to work on my kittys. You need to put new in the tree every other day.
