Tips for First-Time Cat Owners: Keeping Kittens Away from Christmas Trees

I wedged my tree between two small tables and folded the branches back over the decorations and so far the tree is still up, the decorations are intact and the cats still jump at it.

My kitten was absolutely fine for her first 2 Christmases but this year at nearly 2 years old she's going mad over all the decorations 🤦‍♀️

I haven't even bothered to put any decs up as i know this little maddam will go straight for them all. 7 months and so curious i plan to put xmas lights and a hat on the skeleton I still have zip tied on my guttering outside 🤣

I found our tree was down to location... Do you have a secluded corner in a room? E.g. Between 2 sofas? Doesn't matter on breed of cat, just if they are interested in it or not tbh. I have 2 cats, both different breeds, both over 13yrs old. One of mine still loves a christmas tree (has been caught climbing trees outside as well), the other has never been interested, unless the tree is already over and can get hold of the decorations to bat around. I've found if my tree is out the way/ in the corner of the room, protected by the 2 sofas, then my cat isn't interested. If it's somewhere that she would normally go/ her path in the lounge, then it's toast. Allergy wise, it's down to the dander, i.e. The dried saliva from them licking themselves. Personally, I'm allergic to both of mine, but not their fault, so I have daily prescribed antihistamines. There are some breeds (for others wondering), that don't produce as much dander, so are lower risk of allergens. You can Google the different low allergy breeds. I found this out too late for my first cat, and then rescued my second. For people in similar situations, I'd recommend going to your GP and requesting a prescription. 🙂 Good luck with your little tree climber 🙂

We've had our tree up 3 days..so far so good with our 12wk old kitten 🤞🤞🤞 she's had a bit of a bat of lower branches (no ornaments lower down just in case) but no climbing (well aware I've probably jinxed it now!)

She's gorgeous!! Can't help with the Xmas tree question (I don't have one) but I am thrilled you managed to get a cat who you don't react too.
