Advice on Belly Button Piercing for My Daughter: Healing, Care, and Scarring Concerns

EDIT Thank you all for your replies
😘
there are certainly many more 'success' stories than horror. I will explain everything to her and if she still wants it done I will let her. Xx
Hi all. Hoping for some advice please. My daughter is desperate to have her belly button pierced and while I have no objection to this, as it's her body, I just worry that it will cause problems with wearing jeans and certain trousers and also getting infected
🤮

Anyone who has their belly button pierced, is it relatively easy to keep clean and does it heal OK? If she changes her mind in a couple of years, will she be left with a scar?
Thank you
😘

I had mine done at 22ish. No probs with it at all. Still got it 2 babies later. 😀
I always preferred piercings to tattoos as at least the piercing can be removed.
I anticipate a small scar if the belly piecing is removed and allowed to heal over.

I had mine done at 13. Kept it in throughout 2 pregnancies and took it out at 32. I took it out because any high-waisted jeans would rub and irritate it. Back when I got it done High waisted wasn't a thing 🤣 I have got a scar but probably because its been stretched so much and was in for so long x

I had mine done many moons ago by a professional piercer. It healed very well, I cleaned it daily as per the instructions. It does annoy me how it feels in jeans though tbh!
Just be aware we've been told if they're doing sports in school they may need to sit it out or patch it up so it doesn't get ripped out (trampolining being one)

I'm 47 nearly. I took mine out when I had my gallbladder out. When I was 32. Had it pierced when I was 18.

My daughter had hers done at 14 she cleaned it once a day with the solution for about 2 weeks and has never caught it on any clothing and we’ve never had an issue with it, she wears low rise bottoms but only wears trackies or leggings or shorts she now has her nose pierced too haha, belly button piercing hurt a lot less than her nose did 🤣🤦🏻‍♀️ as long as your daughter keeps it clean and does the cleaning regime like the piercer asks it’ll be fine. Xxx

Buy a small bottle of iodine from pharmacy and put on wound twice a day. It can make certain jeans and trousers trickier to wear but a plaster over the piercing or low waisted jeans will help.

I had mine done when I was at school and it got infected 🙈. I kept it in and cleaned it well also antibiotics from doctors. Kept it in with both pregnancies I'm 40 now and still have it 😊🙈. As long as she keeps it cleaned she be fine

Just keep it clean and I am a dog groomer and I had mind done even then it give no problems. I got mine ripped out and left with a svar because of it but yiu can repierce even with a scar

My daughter 13 had hers done in the Easter holidays and hasn’t had any problems at all with it.
She did clean it every evening with salt water for the first two weeks x

I've had mine done for years. Never had any problems with it. Even managed to keep it in while pregnant without any issues. There wouldn't be a scar just a small hole that you wouldn't notice above belly button x

Had mine at 18. Kept it in until I was pregnant with my first child at 27. Never had any issues. I say go for it just look after it like any other piercing 👌

I had mine done at 17 and took it out when I feel pregnant with my first child when I had it done I brought savlon spray and morning and night I would spray the top and bottom of the bar and move it up and down a few times I never had a problem with any infection it healed really well now if you really look you can see I've had it done but it's not a particularly noticeable scar

They heal quickly will be a little sore to begin with just use salt water to clean. Wear leggings with high waist band if worrying about snagging. Would only leave a small scar. I’ve had my pierced 23 years now can take in and out fine have even re-pierced it easily after long surgery recovery

I had one for years. Mine was pretty good although I did catch it a couple of times on things, so she'll have to learn to choose clothes that feel comfortable. Any piercing can become infected but the chance is hugely reduced if its kept clean, salt water is good for this. It heals pretty quickly and didn't hurt much at all. i removed mine during pregnancy and have tiny scar, but not one that bothers me though.
One good thing I found in comparison to other piercings is that it didn't close up quickly when I removed the bar for a few days (when it was well established), whereas other piercings closed up within a day
