Ring Bought on Etsy Turns Out to Be Fake - Seller Refusing Refund, What Are My Options?

If you like the look of it and it doesn’t turn your finger green, who’s to know it’s not real 🤷‍♀️ jewellers are a good place to go for rings not Etsy

Make sure you leave a review so others know too if they’re stating they’re selling genuine stones etc

@dancegavindance Etsy is a place for independent sellers. Lots of very talented genuine people sell on there. From handmade luxury furniture to genuine jewellers that sell high quality genuine items, lots of which better than you get in shops.
Yes things on there aren’t vetted like in a shop but if you read reviews you usually get a good idea on the seller.

@remi832 it’s still great if you are looking for quality products. If you’re searching for cheap tat with vinyl stickers on it, that’s what you’ll find!

Unfortunately with Etsy you only have 180 days to make a claim so there is literally zero that you can do there. You will also sadly be out of your review window which is the same time scale.
It’s quite sad to see so many people bashing Etsy here.
Etsy is a place full of genuine sellers some of which are the most creative, clever, amazing people I know.
I sell on there myself so I am biased, but the things I sell are very low end in comparison to some of the people I know.
Some jewellers that sell on Etsy have learnt their trade over many years, perfecting it and you will get a ring made with love and a much higher quality than any high street shop. Just because it’s from Etsy doesn’t mean it’s cheap or rubbish.
Whilst yes there are unfortunately some cheap, mass produced items being allowed to be sold on there, it’s important to check the reviews and you can get a good idea of quality rather than relying on photos that can lie.
Please don’t let this put you off buying from Etsy, so many of us sellers love what we do and put so much care into making high quality products and we work hard to give customers a great buying experience. Without Etsy I wouldn’t have the business I have today and wouldn’t be able to put food on the table for my kids.

If its gold bought from another country, they don't have the same hallmarking laws as us, but you can send it to the assay office to get the gold tested and hallmarked

How much was it? And also did the info about the ring say it was real?
I’m not slating Etsy, I love and I’ve bought a lot of lovely items from Etsy, but expensive jewellery I’d always go to a jewellers. I’d maybe speak to the bank see if they can do anything, but as you’ve had the item for a long time I’m not sure they would do anything. I think just lesson learnt unfortunately x

So sad to read this thread. So many of us genuine handmade sellers sell high quality stuff. Unfortunately, there are alot of charlatans selling fake stuff as well. They eventually get closed but only to be replaced by another 5 scam shops. They frustrate the genuine sellers no end I promise you.
If you go to your account, click on your order, then the item. Read what the description says then go from there. Too late to do much but no harm in trying. If the description is false, you could message Etsy complaints and discuss it.
