Off-the-Beaten-Path Vacation Ideas: Hidden Gems and Unique Destinations

We did a bucket list holiday last year….
Train museum at York plus the shambles
Trip to Manchester by double decker bus, then boys dis football museum girls went shopping
Coffee and in cake that’s always a no
You get the idea we did a week of completely different things and everyone got to do some of their things.

We've recently been to North Macedonia. TUI have introduced it this year with flights from Manchester and Gatwick. I had to Google it! It was lovely and really cheap. We stayed in Ohrid on the lake and did boat trips, went to Albania, visited world heritage sites. Go before everyone discovers it

Louise Whitaker I am from North Macedonia and would definitely recommend it .People has not discovered it yet so it’s worth while is cheap 🙂

I would definitely recommend visiting north Macedonia ,Bosnia ,Slovenia and Montenegro .Lovely countries with lovely people .

@johnbres2 we stayed in Ohrid. We booked Hotel Grannit all inclusive. It's a bit old fashioned but we had a lovely room overlooking the lake. The food was very traditional and the red wine was great. Don't expect cocktails!
€5 taxi to Ohrid centre.

@johnbres2 it depends tbh. It's not like a normal all inclusive but we always found something we liked. River trout, beef or veal stews etc. It's North Macedonian. It was so cheap (£520 AI) that we were happy to eat out if needed. We had a few lunches in the centre and one evening meal. Cheap as anything. The drinks were limited (wine, beer, coffee, local spirits) but plentiful and the wine, in particular, was lovely.
TUI do a full day to Albania (£40)
Boat trips are much cheaper if you do it yourself. A full day cruise to a monastery was about £15. Look on trip advisor. A taxi to old town Ohrid was a standard €5. It's not your normal package holiday but everyone we met loved it.

@daysgirl we were picked up, by coach, from our hotel. We basically drove round Lake Ohrid and Albania is the other side of the lake. We stopped in a new resort area for coffee and went to a market in the old town, then stopped for lunch. Finally we went to a traditional Albanian village.

Cologne in Germany was good. Great transport links with plenty to do: zoo, Lindt museum, beach and Phantasialand theme park (better than Alton Towers in my opinion)
