Excessive Holiday Homework: Is This Normal? Need to Vent About My Son's English Teacher

also re the commen about my other half you made - yeah hes got a face full of tattoos, but hes also got a masters degree in international war correspondence lol and he didnt even go to secondary school 😂 you go ahead and judge lol 😂 were def more successful even looking like freaks 😂😂🤦‍♀️ nice to see hes blocked me the sap 😂

@laraineclark its all good, i know he knows deep down hes the sad little man having to try grasp at straws to try and offend lol 😂 not sure if he knows many people like us, we def don’t care about people like that lol 😂

@pentecostal_tony i mean the jobs they pushed us to get - who are all now unable to pay for their families to survive - all based on what school told them. I learnt how to be a tattoo artist from my mentor at the time and no one else lol 😂

@pentecostal_tony and that local economy is absolutely fucked - it’s affecting us because normal people used to be paid enough and they aren’t! they all have importance but at school they dont tell you that in those jobs youl struggle your whole life!

@tinamichael that’s my point it’s not the education system to blame it’s the government. Also how did you apply for your tattoo apprenticeship did you have to provide evidence of artistic skills? My argument is your comment is implying school isn’t important when in fact it is

@pentecostal_tony tattoo apprenticeships are got through a good portfolio of drawings:) its not a gov regulated apprenticeship which sucks as means we dont get paid for 1 year! i thought the government were the ones who set the goals and education laws etc? maybe im wrong!

@pentecostal_tony basically school isnt everything, it cant even ensure your going to get anywhere. i have friends with amazing grades but we all have jobs that we didnt even need good grades for, it was implied wed get no where without 12 high grade gcses and a levels and a degree, and yet even some people with all those things end up on a 0 hour contract worrying about survival and i think thats the problem with implying education is the only way to achieve highly.

@tinamichael Schools teach far too much useless stuff.
Maths should dump algebra...teach how mortgages and loans work ...general budget layouts .
Languages were forced on us from age 12 ..german and french . ..pointless ..if you want to learn those ..you will take that on yourself.

My children (both adults now) always had homework during school holidays, for most subjects. One year it was the equivalent of 2-3 hours a day 7 days a week for the 6 week summer holidays, and to my knowledge when they handed it in, it didn’t even get looked at.
But on the plus side, it kept their brains working during the holidays, kept them in study mode, and they both achieved very good grades at GCSE and A level.

I wouldn’t do it.
We don’t do homework ever. This is about them reaching targets and nothing to do with what’s best for your child

Perhaps the homework varies by what the teacher believes is required for the child to succeed or if they feel a further challenge is required.
You could say to the teacher you're not happy about it and ask the reasons for it.
I'm sure the teachers life would be much easier if she gave herself no marking to do over holiday periods so I doubt she's giving it out lightly.

@gvze but she IS marking it and that takes time. And what she's marking is from over holiday periods. So it's more work for her too regardless of when it's done. That's basic logic, perhaps if you ask nicely she can give you some on that subject.

We’ve had the odd bit of homework in the holidays but I don’t think it’s been mandatory and they wouldn’t have done it anyway! I have the exact same thoughts as you, holidays = downtime and they will not be doing homework unless they wanted to for any reason!
