Hi, I'm looking for advise on home schooling.
I have a 10 year old and 9 year old who attend school and always have. I also have a 2 year old and 1 year old. I'm really, really considering home schooling. But I don't know if I'm just being naive!?
I'm looking for pros and cons please. Where do I start? I'm not the brightest academically. My highest GCSE was a C. Is there help for me to make this successful if i decide to do it? Do I let my older 2 finish their education in a school setting or would they be okay changing to home schooling?
Thanks in advance for any help and advise.
😊

Few people in this group have actual experience of home education, but lots do have uninformed opinions based on homeschooling during lockdown and stereotyping.
Please join home education groups and ask the people in the know. Home Education For All (H.E.F.A) UK Home Education UK @133mwaymire

Join home education UK or one of your local home education groups and you'll find loads of lovely people to share their experiences with you. I'm just coming to the end of my journey with my d just taking her gcses. It's totally doable and the best thing ever. Xx

You don’t need to be the ‘brightest’
You are their parent and what you’ll provide will be better than a school no matter what you think about yourself. Trust me.
I run a home education group and I have enough knowledge of the different methods and ways of doing it to chat to you.

I have no expertise in home schooling but if you want all 4 home at once and actually achieve any learning you'll need eyes in your behind!
I couldn't do it, I'd be run ragged 🤣

Mostly when there’s a request for advice on groups like this, people don’t offer any if they know nothing about what’s being asked. However It’s amazing how many people with no knowledge whatsoever of home education are so keen to advise about it!

100% join Home Education UK. I deregistered my son from secondary school I January as they weren't meeting his SEN needs and Home Ed is amazing. You can take more time to ensure they have a real grasp on subjects before entering exams etc as there is no time frame for GSCE's. You can work St your child's pace and you can take a child led approach to their education as well, we've just recently done a project on the vikings as my son is really into history 🥰

I am not trying to be confrontational here, but what are your reasons for wanting to home school? You have said yourself that you are not very academic, so why do you want to have to learn a load of information, just so you can teach it to your children? You will be running 4 different 'depths' of each subject, and I strongly suspect you will struggle to ensure each child is challenged. You are not trained in pedagogy, and lack subject knowledge (by your own admission). Teachers are well trained in pedagogy, have good subject knowledge, and a wealth of experience in how to impart that knowledge. Not to mention the socialisation benefits being in a class of peers brings. The education system is by no means perfect, but is a lot better than somebody with no idea what they are doing.

@tad91 in what way? You mean they lack the necessary subject knowledge? Like cannot multiply for example? Well they are few and far between. I have certainly never met one.
