Getting a Dyspraxia Assessment for SEN Kids Through GP

It varies by area in terms of which professionals need to be involved. Some require OT and paediatrician, others just an OT. GP should know what’s required, but they don’t always and that can delay everything. Might be worth trying to call your local hospital paediatrics team or OT services direct to ask the question

GP referred OT Diagnosed. Also saw a pediatric development specialist as I was told OT wasn't an official enough diagnosis

My daughter has had a test done in school after I raised my concerns, I didn't need to get a referral, I just contacted the senco at the school and she sorted it

Independent OT at the start of the EHCP process noticed DCD in my daughter. The OT knew she was awaiting diagnosis for ASC and ADHD (at that time we didn’t have a result) but still highlighted the sensory processing and DCD as all needs had to be noted. Two months after the report she was diagnosed and the OT added an addendum to the report with the new info of dual diagnosis.

I’m a GP…we would refer to OT for dyspraxia and SPD assessments here. Not sure why OT is not addressing that if they think that is the problem?
Also to add if it is not OT’s role where you are based they should know whose it is and should be able to refer you on if within the community team e.g if they work as part of Community Paediatrics and it’s community paeds that do the assessment without you having to go back to your GP.

Get the school to refer to paediatrics for dysbraxia and dyslexia screening. Before you have rest tested.
You may need paediatric to refer you for a full neurological assessment. We had this at St Thomas's neuroscience department because my daughter has traits for asd adhd and was dyslexic n dysbraxic . But she was showing a bit of global delay for her age too.
Our full assessment was brilliant we got a few diagonisis n excellent echp as a result. It took 9 months to do everything and shes approaching re assessment now as they asked at 16 she's reassessed and again at 25 once brain is fully developed to keep her vulnerability level.accurate

@vendable yeah we got sent to paeds and they did both my youngest is having her dyslexic screening in the school so unsure if that's new or cos she's at a different school to her sister.
But when My eldest had it done it was at paeds
