Getting a Dyspraxia Assessment for SEN Kids Through GP

My daughters paediatrician diagnosed her dyspraxia though it didn’t help get her ehcp been battling getting 1 for 3 years now but keep refusing though she’s diagnosed combined adhd , lvl 2 asd, sensory processing disorder, dyspraxia , dyslexia 🤦🏻‍♀️

I have 4 children with a range of SEN needs. My now 13 year old is non verbal, sensory processing, attachment needs and autistic tendencies. I have been asking for a dyspraxia assessment since he was 3 years old to no avail. But you don’t actually need a diagnosis in order to secure additional funding on his EHCP as it is needs based. The OT/EP and paediatrician assessments/reports should show his needs fully and they will also give targets based on those needs to inform the EHCP.

Depends if they actually diagnosed it in your area. Mine don't but OT has said he has it and therefore its written everywhere inc his ehcp but just not an actual diagnosis 🤦

I believe my son has dyspraxia he is 11,had ot assement when he was 3 or 4. Ruled it out, school.ruled out dyslexia also. Last year he was diagnosed dyslexic and after 5 referral rejected from gp I finally got some kind of dyspraxia ( now named DCD) last month with a hell of a fight waiting fir report. But it's a point scoring test so I hold out no hope

My son was diagnosed with dyspraxia when he was 4 in Birmingham that was 6 years ago he got autism diagnosis at 8 in east Devon where we live now x

My son was diagnosed age 7, the OT had to do a co ordination assessment and then our pediatrition used that info to access (dr referred into pediatrition but he’s known to them so was a very quick turnaround)

ot should do abc assement . My eldest son has dyspaxia but he doesn't get any extra help. My youngest son has complex needs and he had the abc assement & scored really low, 0.5th centile which is easily enough for a diagnosis but we felt it was more his cooperation refusing xx

im in West Wales, my son had assessment with OT who said she couldn't give a diagnosis, but the pediatrician who he saw for ADHD gave him his diagnosis after reading OT report x

As above it depends on area in Kent it’s a joint diagnosis between OT and paediatrician! I had a private OT for my son and thankfully she done such a good report the nhs paed took it and confirmed dyspraxia for us!
It’s taken us 2 years waiting for nhs OT sessions though! Good luck xxx

Occupational therapy are the ones who play a big part of the diagnosis so they should be your port of call. We've just got diagnosed. The process took about a year and a half

Regardless of a diagnosis - if ur child has a need, that need should be met, and covered in the provision of the ehcp.
For example when my son got his autism diagnosis it didn’t change a thing in his plan, he was already getting his needs met, inc a specialist autism teacher before he had an autism diagnosis.
Funding is irrelevant to u as a parent - what u need are his needs met.

My son had a movement abc test (I think it was called that) with his OT and scored 0.5 centile and then his paediatrician diagnosed him as dyspraxic following the report

@janecruz this is how we got ours also. My son does have a genetic condition called 22q11.2 Deletion (Di George Syndrome) they thought it might be because of his hypermobility but nope the physiotherapist and paediatrician diagnosed him with Dyspraxia.
