Confused About Airport Liquid Rules: Why All the Different Guidelines and Exceptions?

@greendragonuk you can take 20 50ml bottles if it fits in the bag - number has never been a thing I don’t know where people get this idea from - unless your from an area with an airport that specifically states but I really doubt it
A 1 litre bag fit what you want in it asking as each item is less than 100

@jesusisthree 10x100 Is the 1l
And if you only half fill a 100ml container it’s still classed as 100 ml. Of course you could look for 50ml containers and take 20 but I think it would be a struggle to fit them into a 20x20cm plastic bag (not A1)

@julee88 my point being u can take 5/10/20 bottles every one has this 10 bottle thing in their head but u can take as many items as u please. Below 100 ml and yes all container sizes must be below 100. I do it everyday for work it’s pretty amazing how many items u can get in one of those bags

@jesusisthree this is Liverpool Airport which states 10 bottles. I’ve read it in other places too and I usually fly from Bristol. I guess it makes sense if max is 1000ml but each bottle is 100ml. Of course you can take other options if smaller quantities.

@jesusisthree I fly e weekly for my work from these airports.
Stansted - 10 bottles
Luton - 10 bottles
Gatwick - 10 bottles
Heathrow - 10 bottles
East Midlands - 10 bottles
They can add up to a maximum of 1 litre. They cannot be in containers which can hold more than 100mls of fluid even if the bigger bottle has less than 100mls of fluid it in.

Once my little bag of liquids had quite a lot (face cream, hand sanitizer, lip balm, I can’t remember what else but it was about 10 things!) and I was asked to go to the table for a chat as she was surprised I had so many. I said I hadn’t realised there was a limit and was happy for her to throw the whole bag if it was an issue but she let me keep them.

Currently sat in Dublin airport, asked if I could take my bottle of water through and they said yes 👏 and liquids were to be kept in bags instead of taken out of your main bag? I’m just as confused as u!

I was flying from UK to Thailand I'm a nurse and frequently have scissors thrown in my bag after a shift. I got stopped in dubai for 1 pair but because the blade was under 3 inches they were fine. I told them to keep them as I didn't want to keep getting stopped. Bangkok Airport I'm stopped again another pair of scissors I was like how didn't they find the 2 pairs last time. Also 3 inches is quite big if your going to stab someone and do damage 2 inches is plenty 🙈

It's crazy, I recently flew to Gothenburg on way out used a bag from security at Heathrow then on way back tried to use same bag but had to swap it to a smaller one from Gothenburg and ended up having to throw a travel shampoo away as it didn't fit in the new bag they'd given me!!

@applefaceee exactly the same happened to me except I flew from LHR to Stockholm, had a bag from LHR that they wouldn’t let me use on my return. Gave me a smaller bag and had to leave half my things as they wouldn’t fit!

Travelled from Leeds Bradford to Poland during the summer holidays, I was questioned extensively about my HRT even though it was in the box with my prescription sticker on as it looked over 100ml! We both weren’t allowed to take a sealed drink through with us either. I find this part of travelling the shittest to be honest as it’s pure chaos and so unpredictable as you’ve said! X
