Confused About Airport Liquid Rules: Why All the Different Guidelines and Exceptions?

@armstrongwannabe actually it does. Every single item going airside passes through security. Everything. All food items, stock, everything. Because airside is classed as a sterile area. And yes you can buy anything you want airside because the liquid won’t be suitable for making explosives.

@ginglebell I've literally just flown to Spain and back and took my own zip lock bags and had about 4 of them filled with lighters, deodorants and all sorts, didnt get stopped going out or going in, didnt know about the one bag rule?

@ginglebell there was 8 of us, couldn't remember the rules so filled our bags at home per person so we knew it was already done so we wasn't messing about when we got to airport 🤷‍♀️ this was east midlands to alcudia lol

We went to Portugal as a group. Each had a bag and fine, but one had two bags - not allowed. At all. Made her ditch everything that didn’t fit in one bag. I hung back to help and he spotted mine was only part full so said if it was rescanned she could put some of her things in mine. I managed to throw a few things into my (already scanned) rucksack so she got a bit more space too but they made her throw away everything that didn’t fit in her one allowed bag (and the bit of space he allowed her to use of mine).

3 1 1
3oz or less per item. That will fit in
One quart plastic bag
One bag per traveler
Liquid lotion or gel must comply
People try all sorts. 4oz half empty doesn't work. Half gallon doesn't work. Medication should be in a separate bag even if capsules or liquid.

I got stopped once for having one bag but with loads of stuff in it. Had to explain it was the whole families items not just my own.
