Confused About Airport Liquid Rules: Why All the Different Guidelines and Exceptions?

We got through security at leeds bradford and again at Tenerife with a Stanley knife blade in my other half’s handluggage!! He used his work bag, and went into the side pocket to look for some euro coins as that’s where he’d put them, and cut his finger. When we looked in the bag the massive blade was at the bottom. We were in the airport gate at the time waiting to get on our return flight!!!!

@mgreen7677 it's nonsense, I had a bottle of something, can't remember what, but it was make up related in a clear bottle. Although the bottle held more than 100mls it only had about half a cm left. Luton allowed it, but coming back from Ireland when there was even less in the bottle it was taken lol

I got stopped in Florida for having a 250ml carton of soya milk. They said it’s too big, I told them it was for my son who’s allergic to dairy, they had a little chat together asked if I’d been through the scan machine thing which I had, swabbed the carton, swabbed my sons bag and then let us take it. In Heathrow i had ordered 3 cartons for collection from boots, he drank one on the flight and I was allowed to take the other 2 through into the US mit questions. X

The airport near has lifted the ban of 100ml and can take full size liquids through… I don’t get why some can and some can’t lol!! 🤷🏻‍♀️
I’ve always taken mine in my own clear bags as I can’t be doing stress whilst there and I’ve never been stopped!!

Obviously the reason behind it originally was because of the liquid bomber but it does seem that some airports and even staff at the same airport are more strict than others. This year I took a few items hand sanitizer, mascara and lip balm in my hand luggage. I put them in a clear bag and when I got to security I was told to change the bag to one of theirs. It was basically the same size (mine was slightly smaller) and the only difference was the fastening. Honestly, the fastening is not going to make a difference to me blowing up the plane or not!

100mls per bottle, the bag has to be see through, sealable and 20cm x 20cm or smaller… Only hand luggage tho. It’s something like 2litres in hold luggage

It's to reduce the number of 100's u can bring in. I got stopped 2 weeks ago as they wouldn't let me take my own clear bag. Gave me another and it wouldn't all fit 🙈 I didn't think I had much but obviously I did. If we were allowed our own bags we could still create an explosion with 100s by mixing them. X

You’re supposed to get the bag out and put it in the tray separate as well and I forgot this multiple times recently and wasn’t pulled up on it, plus had things like hand sanitizer in the depths of the changing bag that were not in a little bag and they didn’t flag that either so 🤷‍♀️

This will no longer be an issue…from June next year all airports have to have the new technology so we will no longer have to do this.
London airport is the only one to have it at the moment. Can’t wait !

We were told by a staff member to take the lids off anything we could without leaking, (deodorant & perfume etc) to fit them better in the small bags. Just put the lids in the boxes loose.
I didn't know you could do that until April this year, lol. -x-

I put all my liquids in my main suitcase so no hassle the only thing i had to do was put my lighter in a clear bag provided even tho i never used it on way back on just left it side of stuff in my tub bit visible. I never sealed bag or anything either x think different people are more stricter and different countries have different policies but liquid under 100ml is the same everywhere x
