Weekend Evening Activities for Families: What Works for You?

We just used to watch TV to be honest. We had 5 kids at one point to entertain, so would have cost loads to entertain them all. We have used meerkat movies during the week. Now they're older and the older ones can keep an eye on the 11 and 16 Yr old me and hubby have a bit more freedom so try and fit some date nights in lol.

Not a great deal. Friday night is sometimes takeaway night and then it's a rush to get the very tired smallest to bed. Saturday nights we sometimes have a film, but played games after dinner tonight. Eldest will be in bed about half 8, husband will go out to the garage to do whatever he does and then he'll come in and we'll settle down with some milk and chocolate and watch gold rush. Then we'll go up to bed and watch more gold rush. Very boring here 😂🤣

Weekends free are a very new thing for us. At the moment We usually have a strictly night either at home or at friends. (The husband and child like watching it, me not so much).
Dry evenings, we get the blankets and sit outside bat watching and stargazing or when it’s open, we go down the observatory to look through the big telescopes.

Mostly I tidy, clean, do laundry, make dinner, fold laundry, and yell about the distinct lack of school clothes in the laundry, despite asking nicely more than once. 🤷‍♀️

To be fair, my husband works at the weekend, 3 to midnight. Despite me doing housework / laundry daily, there still seems to be a lot needs done at the weekend. The older kids need time to relax after the week at school. The youngest is happy as long as she's attached to me, and , quite frankly 'out there' is just a bit loud and peopley.

I am a big believer in not over scheduling. Between work and school and clubs me and the kids need some evenings free just to stick a film on, or play games, or just hang out with each other.

We just watch TV in the evening most of the time. We're big Strictly fans and my daughter loves Saturday night game shows. She works hard all week and has a few after school activities then she does musical theatre for three hours on a Saturday. She's usually shattered by the time it gets to Saturday afternoon. I also suffer with ME so I've usually had enough by 7pm myself. We occasionally go out on a Sunday or go to see family but it's rare for us to be out in an evening. You could do board game nights, crafting nights or movie nights. We tend to do those things in an afternoon.
