A Mum's Worst Nightmare on the Tube: Lost Child and Grateful Thanks

We had an incident where one of my boys got trapped in the door. Thankfully a lovely gentleman prevented him from being squished by pushing the door back open to allow him enough room to continue getting in.
Now if we get to the platform and there is already a train there we wait, we don’t take the risk of trying to get on.
I also had the whole conversation with them of what to do if they were to get separated.
Glad you had some good people on the train that helped look after her

Am I ever going to take my kids to London?…highly unlikely…has this unlocked a new fear I didn’t know I had…absolutely 😱😰

So sorry this happened to you. Must have been so scary. When I got to London I take this with me. Dont know if it would be any use to you but it really helps me. Found it a couple of years ago 🙂

So lovely to hear of human kindness & so glad it all worked out. I doubt it was a contingency you had planned for so great everyone had the foresite to get to the next station. Restores your faith in what can feel a very dark and unfriendly world. Thanks for sharing the experience so others can benefit (& at least plan a what if) too.

I think this is why I’ve never taken one of my daughters to London 😆 even now at 13 she gets stuck behind the automatic barriers when she scanned a ticket or passport as doesn’t push them properly!!! The French metro was just as bad when she got stuck behind the barrier and her ticket wouldn’t scan anymore (because had been scanned and she didn’t walk through quick enough 🙈) at 10.30pm no one around. Until some nice French man had to lift her over the barrier 😂

The rules are - if they get on the train without you, get off at the next stop and wait, I will come and find you. If I get on the train and they don’t, stay where you are and I will come back and find you. Drum it into them before you go out. Also, take a picture of them before you go out so you’ve got a record of what they’re wearing that day. X

Aaw that happened to me not long after I moved down from a wee town in the Highlands of Scotland. My Grandparents had taken my sister and I into London. I got on then the doors closed and they couldn't. Though I was 4 years older than your wee girl so it must have been a lot scarier for her. Well done to all who helped her.
Hope you have managed to calm your heart down after that scare? Xx

I saw a similar thing happen in Portsmouth a few years back - but was sat at Harbour waiting for my train, looked up to see a family boarding a train.. then getting off it.. then getting back on it (like they weren't sure if that's the one they actually needed) then when they got off this time - the adults got off first with the child tailing behind... Only for the door to shut and not open again... Less than 30 secs later the train left the station with the kid on it and the rest of family on the platform

Know your panic as our eldest did this a few years ago. Like you, some lovely ladies saw what happened, mouthed to us get off at next stop as we ran beside tube trying to tell us eldest to get off tube at next stop.
We caught next tube and they were waiting at next stop for us with our eldest. We were very thankful to be reunited… well aside from middle child who went “Oh, I was hoping we’d be rid of you as it would be quieter without you bossing us around.” 😂😂😂😂

Happened to us in the Science museum in the lift 🙈, my son jumped in before we had chance and the door closed, lovely family waited for us while I died running down the stairs 😂. It happens and lesson learnt from him for a matter of 5mins of listening xx

This happened to me as a child in Portugal!! I was about 5/6yrs old the police took me off the train after a few stations, not one person on the packed train offered help!!!

My boy fell down the gap between the train and platform when he was 2 I was so lucky a young bloke see him going and quickly grabbed his coat hood I was terrified to go on trains with kids for years
