A Mum's Worst Nightmare on the Tube: Lost Child and Grateful Thanks

This happened to me about 47 years ago, my Daughter jumped on the train while I was trying to get my younger Daughter on. I shouted at her to get off at the next stop, she was about 7/8 at the time. When I arrived on the next train I found she had been befriended by two Australian tourists who had got off with her and waited. There were a lot of tears I can tell you. It still makes me shudder thinking about it.

@phdresearcher he was about 7/8 - 90 kids on a school trip in London in the rush hour - him and his friend and a girl got on and no one else - he planned to stay on the train till he got home (we travel on the underground regularly) but the girl was so upset they got off at the next stop and rang the help button. The school didn’t even tell me until I rang to find out if he was telling the truth

Just as well the tube comes every couple of minutes, if not every minute, imagine it was a train that comes every half hour 😱 happens to the best of us and all in one piece, so all good

This happened to my daughter about 2 years ago 😱 I screamed HELP, MY CHILD IS ON THE TRAIN and a fabulous station worker sprinted to the front of the drivers carriage and got him to stop and release the doors. Eternally grateful to that man. My little ones face through the glass door 🥹

I only dreamt this happening to me 2 nights ago as was contemplating taking my 4 children to London! I quickly changed my mind 🙈
Glad all worked out though x

Not so bad for us but my Daughter did this aged 2 in a lift just ran towards it as the door was closing it was empty so noone would know where she would get off🤦‍♀️😱 we were running to different floors until eventually she came out

My hubby was on his way to football and a little one ran onto the tube parents on the platform still doors shut he pulled emergency stop and then got a telling off from the train guard to which he said this tube is busy as it is with football supporters this child needs to be with their parents can’t believe he got moaned at so her could reunite the child with the parents

Bad fear of mine! I've been into London a few times with my eldest and I've always told him if for whatever reason we get separated, stay still! I will find him but if he's looking for me too, it will be harder! If separated on a train, get off at the next stop and wait. He's going into London with his school soon... I'm gonna attach my Galaxy SmartTag to him just in case!!!!

This happened to me with my hubby as an adult - me left on the platform it wasn’t pleasant in my twenties I imagine your daughter was petrified glad all turned out ok xx 😘

I know this may not help on the underground but if we are in a crowded place I sometimes write my mobile number up the underside of my daughters forearm, just in case we got separated 😟

This happened to me when I was 7 (back in the late 70's). We were visiting from Germany as my dad in hospital in London. We got to the tube station and I remember shouting to my mum " look there's our tube" so I went running off and jumped on the tube, next thing I knew the doors had closed and my mum and sister were still on the platform. Luckily I knew what station I had to get off at. There was also a lovely gentleman who asked if I knew where to get off, once I said yes to him, he said to me "when you get off at your station go and sit on the bench and don't move or speak to anyone until your mum gets here" I did as he said. I've never felt so scared in my life and it felt like hours before my mum and sister got to me but I think it was only 5 or 10 minutes. After this happened to me I stayed close to my mum and sister each time we went to get the tube. I think since then I've only been on the tube in London about 3 or 4 times xx
