World Book Day: It's About Encouraging Reading, Not Costume Competitions!

Love this.
WBD should not be a competition though, as it actually was at the primary some of my grandchildren attend.
Also sad to hear, oh, the usual kids won (parents on governors board etc) so sad.
Dress up, or not (love the muggles idea) 🤣. But don't have an actual competition, but let the kids enjoy the day, guessing who their friends are, what book they are portraying, and have fun xxx

Ours done a pj day as everyone has pj’s to listen to a storey, no shelling out extra money or worrying about making costumes in this tough time,

My 8yo went as Zoe from Zoe’s Rescue zoo. It’s her favourite book series and it’s about a normal girl who rescues animals around a world. She just wore leggins and a jumper, had a book and a stuffed animal. No elaborate costume needed or required.

Can i just say, i agree about spending money on costumes etc but please, always have time for your children. Time costs nothing but means a great deal.

I see it from both points of view , I can see how seeing all this amazing posts go up can make those that haven't got the funds ,time or health to make one that it could make them feel rubbish , however from the other side someone's made something that they feel proud of and want to show it , I personally don't do this one year I did make one for David Walliams and I was so proud o shared it to David Walliams twitter page not to show off but she was so happy with it as was I and he actually reshared our post , Facebook can be a toxic place sometimes I've had times where people have posted and it has been very much bragging and I've felt rubbish so I came off for a while but sometimes we need to remind ourselves the difference between someone wanting to show their achievements and someone who is bragging there is a huge difference , x

I’ve got twins and I hate bloody world book day
I’m still traumatised from the one week. They had maths day where they had to dress as superheroes pirate day, and then the goddamn world book day hate it always hate it
I’m too lazy 🤣🤣 never mind poor kids poor mum 🤣🤣

Really? Cant people just enjoy the fact they dressed up there kids? Without being made to feel bad because someone else may not have been able to? Its just a bit of fun, is there no joy left in anything anymore? Its like people are not allowed to be happy, we have to think about everyone elses feelings all the time, its so frustrating.

I think it’s become a competition as to who has the best parent for making costumes. It does look a lot of pressure. If mine were primary age I’d feel I needed to keep up. We did world book day when mine were younger, but they mostly made their own costumes. But I have enjoyed looking at all the outfits. There are lots of clever parents out there.
