Planting in Gravely Soil of Raised Flower Bed – Do We Need to Remove Stones or Improve Soil? Plus, Best Summer Flowers Recommendations

Lavender, nepeta, salvias would all love it (especially if it’s a sunny bed) without having to add an my additional compost. They love it dry, with little nutrients and lots of gravel/grit for free drainage!

@wilberforce001 mine too and you can get different coloured ones. Trim back in march/April and you'll have a stunning display. Our garden is mostly perennials and shrubs. No need for bedding plants. Grab free coffee grounds from your coffee shop to help improve the soil 👌😊

Stones are fine, they are good for drainage. I would top up with a peat free multiple purpose compost, or mix in soil improver.
Without knowing what way the boarder faces it's hard to recommend plants. It's pictured in shade, but does it get sun at other times of the day?
I would put in a mixture of perennials, including some evergreen ones. In the autumn I would add some spring bulbs.
If you space the perennials out you could add annuals each year in between for variety. Or, if you don't want to do work on it each year, put in more perennials.
A few shrubs can give a bit of structure.

If you want big colour we plant lots of dwarf sunflowers. Then each year the kids dry the heads and pick the seeds out and next year you get them for free.

Plant away u might wanna grab top soil too or rich soil to add to it water it plenty.
I really need to do this in my garden and raise the beds start of spring it goes like a wild jungle then I can't see flowers past grass🤣 always end up ruining the flowers 🤣

Hardy plants won’t die in frosts. Hebe are very good stays green all year and flowers in spring summer. Prennials come back every year. Alpines are hardy although some once rooted will spread everywhere and anywhere.

Daffodils, snow drops, blue bells, tulips, petunia, cornflowers, lupins, forget me nots....all pretty hardy..
Mix some potting soil in...plant...water well..and enjoy when they come up/flower..
