Concerned About Marketplace Scammer – Gave Address to Potential Buyer Who Now Seems to Have Blocked Me

I only posted the first part of my postcode on a listing and got a dodgy message from someone. Didn’t give them any more details then blocked them. They clearly found my old school landline number using part postcode and surname and I got banking phone calls for weeks - all bizarrely from numbers that had a local start code which no bank would use. Decided not to sell stuff on here any more 😂

I find if I offer stuff for free I get loads of people saying they are coming and never do. Sometimes it’s worth saying £5 and it stops the time wasters, if you then refuse the payment it’s a nice surprise 🙂 try not to over think it 🙂

@troiluscresside I offered a king-size Emma mattress for free. I got so annoyed with the bombardment of messages that after a few days I stuck it on for £50 just to stop the messages ... you best believe within 2 hours someone came and got it. Result!!

While it’s a risk giving out your address, ultimately there’s not much she can do with your name and address. These things are easily found without asking so no more at risk really. She probably changed her mind, didn’t want to tell you so ghosted you instead. I’ve had both buyers and sellers to this, annoying, but not worrying I’d say.

Wouldn’t worry. .she couldn’t get there I expect then didn’t want to say . Don’t over think it . I have this a lot .

Not a great deal she can do with that info, and tbf anyone can get that info from public domains. Just be vigilant but don't stress too much. We used to love going through the old style phone book which listed that info for everyone registered with a landline😆

I rarely sell anything on market place because this is so common! Probably 8 out of 10 times i give my address and they don’t turn up!

Happens a lot but why people cant own it & say theyve changed their mind / cant get there is very annoying

@aplle7 within 2 minutes I found your address, husbands name, and a photo of your house, how much you paid for it, the date you moved in etc.. it’s all out there anyway so I wouldn’t worry!
