Choosing the Right Nintendo Switch for Twins – Game Copies and Model Comparison

One game card per game, but they won’t be able to play the same game at the same time. OLED is very good quality and larger screen but for 7 year olds, barely noticeable. They’ll do fine with the regular version. You may want to buy memory cards at some point to expand the memory. If you do, make sure you format them first, otherwise they won’t work properly.

There's a Switch 2 coming out at some point next year.
I would save up and for the meantime get a PS4 cheap to pass the time when Switch 2 comes along.
It will highly likely play Switch 1 games too.

OLED is way better if they play hand held, if they always use it docked through the TV then it doesn't matter. If you don't mind about boxed being a bit bashed keep an eye on amazon warehouse, they often have switches for a few quid off
If you buy the physical copies of the games you can play them on any switch device, but they wouldn't both be able to play the same game at the same time. If you get digital downloads it will only be on the console you download it on. But physical copies they can swap as much as they want 🙂

No, you can play purchased games on another console. It’s a bit of faffing to set up but can be done with google or YouTube help. I play a game I bought on my daughters switch on mine. Can’t play at the same time though. Just go for the basic switches. No need for the OLED’s

I have a 10 yr old and 7 yr old twins
If your twins are boys, I would get something 2nd hand, like a Wii u. Loads cheaper, should come with games and still keep them happy. Mine play FIFA 13 with Wayne Rooney and other players they've never heard of and mario kart.
Mine are not very good at looking after stuff

Look into buy the digital copies and setting the switches up with both profiles on each. That way you buy one digital copy of a game and both will get it. Only issue is the switch will need Internet each time to load a game x

Get a PS5. All the switch has done has caused arguments when we first got it, 2yrs on & Im the only person who uses it & that’s only when they want backup on fortnight 🙄

The OLED is noticeably better on screen and graphics - it looks amazing.
Physical cards obviously if they want to play the same card at the same time you’ll need 2 cards.
A lot of games are multiplayer so someone will use just one console and each player has just the handheld joycons and they play split screen. Usually attached to projector etc.
games like Mario kart racing or Luigi phantom mansion. Lego city. Lego Batman etc. sports games.
mine have loads of fun with this. So look for 2 player split screen games.
Games for 2 copies will be like Minecraft where they can play together each on their own switch and join each others worlds but each on their own switch.
They’ll do this through online accounts.
Buying digital games is where the issues start.
You need a Nintendo paid online membership account. This gets you onto the shop to buy and download digital games.
Within your Nintendo account you can set up families so have the twins on it as the kids.
BUT
They will NOT be able to play the same digital game at the same time. It will kick one off.
They will even get kicked off if one is playing a digital game and the other might try to play a different digital game and get kicked off.
There’s a work around. One has to go on a digital game and go on airplane mode. Then the other can go on a digital game on the same Nintendo account.
It’s. A. Nightmare. Each time one goes on a digital game Nintendo will check if anyone else is on a digital game from that account and kick them off. This can cause massive fights as you can imagine with children in the middle of crucial gaming lol.
I have relented and now I pay for a Nintendo account and separate shop for each child.
I download digital games separately.
And yes I’ve had to buy for example 1 Minecraft switch card and 1 digital Minecraft for the other.
I’ve had to buy 2 games for each but I’ve usually forced them to share for as long as possible.
Games like hello neighbour for example it’s 1 player only I’ll now buy a digital copy for each on their separate accounts.

Whilst the game data is saved on the respective console (handheld version), the console needs the cartridge in to play that game on it. Therefore there’s no need to duplicate games unless they both want to play the same one at the same time. That’s a great opportunity for them to learn to share. Whether to go for the handheld version or the TV one is up to you and how they will be used. The handheld one is great for single play, whereas the TV version allows for better multiplayer action but might also block up your television. Don’t worry about the display definition, at that age they won’t even notice.
