Confused About Airport Liquid Rules: Why All the Different Guidelines and Exceptions?

Possibly the most boring post you have ever had the misfortune to read…but I am interested in understanding something
😬

Can anyone explain the limit on liquids through airport security? I know the reason why it’s limited, but why:
-The tiny plastic bag to put items in
-The fact you can only have one tiny plastic bag per person
-Some airports let you through with above the limits
-Some airport staff let people through with their own zip up clear bag, two rows down someone with the same bag gets stopped and told they can’t use it and has to put use one of the tiny plastic bags
- they reject your plastic bag for not being sealed properly, someone does it up and sends it back and it’s then ok
I am perplexed
😂

Because people don't choose to work on airport security because they love people, they do it because they love to fuck with people

You are only allowed 10 separate liquid items per person that all fit within the plastic bag.
It is going to change soon and limits will be removed as the new testing machines roll out in all UK airports. (But not necessarily the airport you're flying home from)

Ex security officer here and it literally is down to the security staff you get
We have to use our own judgment on wether or not the bag you have follows the policy we have in place however my judgment could be different to the other security officer on the next lane
Also have to be conscious of I could deem the bag okay but then the person on the X-ray machine kicks it off as they deem it to big so then it would be down to the bag searcher on wether it needs to be changed
Hope this helps

I forgot to take the plastic bag out of my luggage which resulted in me being pulled aside and all of my liquids being checked in a special machine. My toothpaste "failed" the test. So it seems I have been brushing my teeth for the last 15 years with something that has the potential to blow up a plane.... 😳

@jaredsouth we got stopped last month. As a family of 4 I just shoved all 4 bags in the same tray. As did the lady in front of me. That is a red flag and means you get singled out for scanning. We had to verify who we were travelling with (rest of my family had just left me so I had to point them out from far away and they were waving a laughing at me 🤣). Then one item from each bag gets tested, it’s different to the usual scanning. The lady before me had her frizz ease confiscated as it didn’t pass the test. She got upset as it was expensive. The man told us in quite some detail about how everything works (it was quite interesting). But the thing that perplexed me, he said had he known it was excessive he’d have asked her if he could test something else instead so the fries ease would have gone through. I was then allowed to pick one product from each of my bags….🤦🏻‍♀️ luckily they all passed the test.

@jaredsouth I forgot to put my daughters toothpaste in a plastic bag, her case got scanned, searched and she gave me the biggest lecture that a 9 year old could deliver about how embarrassing it was 😂😂😂

We got searched Because my daughter had left a bottle of water in her bag after I told her to empty it, and she said to the guy who searched
oh why are you searching my mum she wouldn’t have a bomb in there…. 😭😭🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤣🤣

I nearly had my Charlotte Tilbury highlighter and cream eye shadow confiscated as it didnt fit my clear bag. I told him I didn't want to be ugly in France and he laughed and let me carry on my way. The women next to us had to throw away all her luxury skincare despite them being minis aswell as extensive search. She nearly missed her flight

@dezmond Thank goodness he took pity on you 😂 I mean there just doesn’t seem to be any sense in it. You can buy as much as you like when you get past security- don’t tell me every duty free product or Boots product gets put through those machines!
