Choosing the Right Nintendo Switch for Twins – Game Copies and Model Comparison

Nintendo Switch
I'm looking for advice please. We have twin boys who are nearly 7. We have saved and saved and are hoping to buy them one nintendo switch for their birthday and one for Christmas!! But I have a few questions
- They will both want to play the same games so when they eventually have a switch each will we have to buy 2 copies of every game? So 2 copies of minecraft, 2 copies of Sonic etc?
- Also, would I be better getting the switch neon red and blues or the switch OLEDs? Looking to save money wherever possible as this is a HUGE buy for us, is the OLED really THAT much better?
Thanks so much, from a complete technophobe!!
Xxx
😘

You only need one copy of each game, the data is saved to the device not the game card. I should mention though, if they wanted to play the same game at the same time, then obviously you will need to copies!

Why don’t u just buy them one to share then let them pick their own games of choice? The switch is much better playing with someone than on your own xxx

@mavivo just because as twins they have had to share absolutely everything their entire lives! They are amazing at sharing but for special things if I can I like to get them one each. It makes things simpler for car journeys, at Granny and Grandpa's etc 😊
Obviously we will all play together too, but I like for them to be able to be independent if they want to be. Xxx

@littlefre2 I get it my husband is a twin, we play as a family and it’s great fun. If I was buying 2 I’d wait till I could give them both at the same time so that one doesn’t go without? Like I mean for both their birthday or both Xmas instead of one before the other? Ano how expensive they are so I hope that doesn’t sound rude it’s not meant to be xxx

@mavivo I was hoping by giving them one to share for their birthday and then suprising them with another one to share at Christmas that would pass as their main present for Christmas and birthday!!! If I give them both on one occasion I'd feel like I had to get them something else for the other occasion!!! 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️ God no, doesn't sound rude at all; I welcome other people's advice/opinion 😊 xxx

Ahh I see that makes sense I suppose? That way you’ll see if they even bother with it? We bought a switch years ago & our girls weren’t interested so we sold it and booked a holiday🤣but we recently bought another one and now they are more interested in it - all though me and hubby are partial to a game of bowling🤣xxx

@littlefre2 I also have twins - one asked for a switch for Christmas so she got it, the other twin wasn’t interested at the time. Then 2 months later she used her birthday money to buy one so they both have one each now. They need one each really otherwise they will argue - we tried to share game cartridges but on certain games they want to play together we just got 2 game cartridges

Get the switch that can connect to the TV, buy a second controller and let them share that way only one copy is needed xx

The oled is worth it if playing in handheld a lot. If connected to the tv and not oled then stick with a standard. There’s a lot of hearsay about a new Nintendo console next year. I’d wait for Black Friday 🙂 they can share switch games but of course if only one cartridge can’t both have it at the same time

Oled is worth the upgrade for hand held gaming. You will have to but both of them games for each of the switches and make them separate accounts, otherwise they can't play together

We have a 12 and 10yo who both love to play but we've never even thought of buying a second switch - can't really justify the money and this way they have had to learn to take turns and be fair.
The parent switch app is pretty good for this as it tells you how long each profile has used the console each day 🙂
If you do go down the two console route, buy cartridges for anything both want to play as they can have save files on their own device.
As someone else said the switch is brilliant for multiplayer so get lots of games they can play together on just one console 🙂

For a 7 year old I wouldn't bother with the oled I have the oled cause screen is slightly bigger for my eyes lol it's batteryis a bit better aswell but only real difference, and unfortunately you will have to have 2 copies of the games , if they want to play on their individual switches online together, but alot of games can be played 2 player on the TV with one switch so depends really what set up works for u really, I definitely wouldn't bother with the oled for 7 year old , my 11 year old has the non oled one and she's not had any issues x

If you're going to play it on the TV mostly then the OLED doesn't matter. Mine don't have the OLED and no complaints.
Mine are 9 & 12, they've had theirs at least a year or more and they share. Never any arguments. You'll need games for each device x
