How Involved Should Sellers Be at Markets?

*thank you for everyone’s feedback, just a hello & tiny bit of general chit chat if any at all & put prices on things*
Bit of a random one. When you attend a market like Christmas market or summer fair type thing. Do you prefer if the seller talks to you, tells you about their products/ back story etc. or to just say hi and leave you to it.
*bit of back story*
I have my own small business and from time to time I do fairs mostly seasonal. But my last few I have done I’ve sold practically nothing. I know it’s not my products I Iove them & have great feedback form online buyers. as I sell allot online, and of course on Instagram you can come across as more confident and push your products more but in person im quite shy and socially awkward so at fairs I tend to just say hi to the browser and then answer any questions they may have. But I’m now wondering if this is my downfall. I’m no sales person for sure but it’s becoming a real downer when I’m paying for stalls and selling nothing and gets me down in the dumps. & am losing confidence for all of the up coming Christmas ones I have booked.
What would you do? I don’t want to be one of those pushy sellers as I hate to feel like I’m forcing people into buying something. Help a socially anxious girl out lol.

I prefer a quick hello and left to browse and will then ask anything I need to know, this then can turn into a friendly chat. Good luck with your selling 💚

I think say hi and have open body language but don’t start talking about products unless you’re asked. Also make sure everything is priced - I find it really off putting if things aren’t priced.

I hate it when stall holders talk to me. 😂 when i do stall I usually just say ‘please help yourself to one of my business cards’ and leave them to it. Ive broken the ice and leave the ball in their court.

I like being left alone, but not ignored. Smile, say hello, and let me know you can help if I have any questions.

I hate when people talk to me 😂 say hi, and look like you're ready to serve if need be, but please don't talk to me 😬

If they get chatty then yes def get chatting, but I always say hello to anyone who browses on my stall. If they don’t buy they know I’m not a rude person

I use self scan at supermarkets because I don't like to talk to people.
The only time I want to speak to someone is if I have a question about something.
It someone started talking about the history of products and whatnot I'd probably leave and go elsewhere.
But the I'm just weird and anti social.

@almts915 when I used to work in a call centre though I could fake being normal on the phone and was actually pretty good at selling. I reckon I could sell snow to the Eskimos as long as people don't have to see the facial expressions I can't hide 😂

@legle Also agree with this, much prefer to browse without having to engage with the seller. Do you have clear prices on things, that can be another put off if you have to ask how much things are?

It's ALL about the story! Get a more confident/sales orientated friend to come with you, you'll pick up the patter in no time!
Watch the other stallholders to get tips.
