Hi I'm hoping some of you lovely people can help. My husband had a tonsillectomy on Tuesday 15th August. He doesn't get sick pay from his employer only SSP so he took annual leave for last week as we can't afford 2 weeks unpaid we are trying to get the SSP for this week but we are being told he can only get 2 days SSP, but his sick note starts from the 15th, citezen advise tell me he should be entitled to this full week but I can't find anything on the gov website. What should he be entitled too?
😭
🤦🏼‍♀️

Thank you for reading.

You have 3 waiting days before SSP starts , why he will only get 2 days in the first week. He would of been better having annual leave first then sending his sick note in and he would have had his waiting 3 days whilst on holiday pay

It used to be after the first 3 days now its the first 7 you dont get paid for and get ssp after this just had this fight with employer and cab xxx

In my work you don’t get paid first 5 days then SSP be would kick in. So I’d have taken 1st week off self certificate (unpaid) 1 week SSP (govt pays it) & then you could take a week holiday. You can’t use SSP after a week of holiday as it effectively starts the off sick again x

His Self certificate would be (assuming same as mine with 5 days sickness) 15/16/17/18 and 21st. SSP would then kick in and be 22/23/24/25/28 so basically him taking holidays means he’s had no self certificate time off so therefor SSP can’t kick in to effect x

Taken holiday for last week then Monday, Tuesday weds are his 3 days you don't get it for so he will only get SSP for today and tomorrow
