There are a lot of things I love about myself, but my lashes have never been highest on the list. I don't mind them. They're fine! But when I've gotten a casual lash lift or thrown on falsies in the past, a glimmer of what could be has started to lurk in the back of my mind. I know, a couple of pre-booked appointments or extra time in front of the vanity every morning would make lush, full lashes my daily reality... but I also know myself well enough to know that will never happen.

Enter MascaraTok. Every so often, a viral mascara will cross my feed that makes me think my life might actually change, lash-wise. Maybe, just maybe, I could get the look I want in a couple of swipes, no appointments required. It rarely works out, but... have you seen the viral videos of Maybelline's Colossal Bubble Mascara?! This time it kind of did.

Ahead, everything to know about the newest mascara that's literally sweeping the internet—plus my honest review.

The Product

Contrary to popular belief, Colossal Bubble is not a tubing mascara. It coats your lashes the traditional way: with a pigmented film that separates and adds volume and length. The signature wand features a spiral comb that lifts and inflates every last lash (hence the bubble name) and is so satisfying to swipe.

The Hype

Colossal Bubble first started gaining attention via TikTok (it was originally available only via the app's shop). There's something about a "one eye mascara'd and one eye naked" video that's mega watchable, and the difference content creators saw when using this mascara was pretty stark.

My Review

One coat: pretty, no clumping. Two coats: lovely, no clumping. Three coats: long, gorg, and no clumping whatsoever. It's fun when a product works for you the way you've seen it work online. Upon first test, I joined the ranks of the hundreds of TikTok girlies before me with long, separated, and bubbly (I don't know if that's the word, but it's their word, so I'll go with it) lashes. The one thing I was really missing was some curling power, but that's something that can easily be remedied with my trusty Shiseido.

Amazing thing to happen for a detailed review but not an amazing thing for me personally: after applying my mascara one day, I got hit with some kind of allergic reaction that made my eyes so, so itchy. I rubbed and I rubbed and, yeah, it did smudge a little. But isn't that par for the course?

What was more telling was how this mascara stayed on during a session of face-down acupuncture. After I came up from whatever energy swirl fever dream I was having, my face was creased but my eyes retained their lengthy framing.

When it came time to take my makeup off, the mascara disappeared easily with my regular cleanser (the brand recommends using an oil-based cleanser if you're having trouble). And the next day... I just applied it again for more of the same magic. Sometimes, dreams come true.
